Bexley and Dartford

Bexley and Dartford are located on the edge of Greater London on the southern side of the River Thames. Nearby Shooters Hill marks the boundary with Greenwich to the West, and Dartford marks the edge of Kent to the East.

Although the area is now filled with housing and shops, including the nearby Bluewater shopping centre, there are still stretches of woodland and open spaces such as Oxleas and Falcons Woods as well as Danson Park and Hall Place gardens. Hall Place incorporates a museum and restaurant in the restored mill house. The ruins of 12th century Lesnes Abbey can still be found in Abbey Woods which is part of the Green Chain Walk from Oxleas Wood to Thamesmead. The Horniman museum in nearby Forest Hill has fragments of the prehistoric ‘Swancome Man’ on display.

The area benefits from good transport links both into London and south to Dover via the A2 which follows the route of the ancient Roman road Watling Street. Travellers into London can cross the Thames via the Dartford Tunnel or Queen Elizabeth II toll bridge.
