Slough occupies a corner of Berkshire just north of Windsor and is sandwiched between Bracknell to the Southwest and Maidenhead to the West. Originally little more than a stagecoach stopping point, the area expanded rapidly after the Second World War.
Today the area is still an industrial centre benefiting from its close proximity to Heathrow, the M4 and M25 and London. A multi million pound re-development programme entitled Heart of Slough is due to begin in 2008 with the aim of regenerating the town centre.
With three shopping centres and a pedestrianised town centre Slough offers plenty of shopping opportunities. Visitor attractions in the area include Windsor Castle (official residence of the Queen), nearby Swinley Woods, The Old Manor public house (reputedly a favourite watering hole for Dick Turpin), and Brunel’s Maidenhead Bridge known locally as the Sounding Arches and immortalised by Turner.
