St Helens and Wigan

St Helens is located mid-way between the bustling cities of Liverpool and Wigan and just 25 miles from Manchester Airport. Both Wigan and St Helens were originally part of Lancashire but St Helens was reclassified as part of Merseyside Metropolitan County in the early seventies.

Both Wigan and St Helens are synonymous with Super League Rugby and racing enthusiasts can enjoy all year round racing at Haydock Park. Visitors to the area may also enjoy power boat racing at Car Mill Dam, Wigan Pier and the Trenchfield Mill museum or The World of Glass museum which explore more of the areas industrial past. Wigan is also home to the annual World Pie Eating competition.

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area and by night a lively clubs and trendy bars rub shoulders with more traditional pubs. There is also a thriving alternative music and arts scene courtesy of the Citadel Arts Centre, the annual Haigh Hall Music Festival. There are great transport links via road, rail and regular bus services to Liverpool, Manchester and the whole of the North West.
