On retiring, I decided to re-train as a teacher of English and earned a diploma and two certificates in teaching English. Over the years, I have also gained qualifications in Latin, German, Spanish and Italian. These additional languages assist me in my understanding of the mistakes that English students often make - and how best to help them speak and read English correctly and more naturally. In addition to teaching English, I can enrich the experience with accompanied visits to traditional country houses, castles and their gardens. This gives the student a greater understanding of the cultural and historical development of the English language. It also allows them to experience conversational English that develops as a natural consequence of being in an interesting and stimulating environment. Brockenhurst College in the New Forest National Park delivers a wide range of A Level, vocational and apprenticeship programmes. It also provides a Higher Education programme, skills and training courses for adults, as well as bespoke services to business. The College has over 3000 16-19 year old students and around 5,000 adult learners. In addition, it attracts a high proportion of international students and has its own staff delivering A Level programmes in schools China. Exam results are consistently good, with excellent progression of students into university (22% to Russell Group), apprenticeships and directly into employment.
