Alec Butcher has been in the funeral profession for 35 years and is fully qualified. Having been a funeral director in Norwich for ten years, he then looked after funeral homes in Beccles, Bungay and Halesworth for a local family business as a funeral director. Prior to that he was Assistant Superintendent at St Faith's Crematorium for six years. He has built up a wealth of knowledge and experience within the funeral profession. Vanessa Butcher has worked as a health professional for thirty years, both as a nurse (RGN) and as a midwife. Vanessa has worked in both Ipswich and Norwich hospitals and for the last ten years as a midwife in the community. Vanessa is a fully trained Celebrant having completed her training with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants. She officiates at most of our services and we find that our families like to have the option of our own in-house Celebrant as well as other local Celebrants and Ministers. Due to her many years working as a Midwife, she has worked alongside families at difficult, emotional and frightening times of their lives, needing to promote calmness and a sense of trust in a very short period of time. Vanessa says, "The family's wishes are of the utmost importance. The funeral ceremony should reflect the loved one, their life and be just as the family wish it to be.'' Pipers have been used at military and state funerals for centuries, but now Piping is becoming more of a common feature at everyday funerals. The Bagpipes add a special touch to any funeral providing sweet haunting melodies. The sound of the bagpipe is the perfect send off for your loved ones. They can be used at any type of funeral, whether it is a cremation or burial. We can also offer a Piper to play the Scottish Small Pipes, which have a more mellow sound for use during the service. Cremations You can have the Piper playing laments outside the crematorium as mourners are arriving and laying wreaths, the music will help them drift off in to a world of remembrance. The Pipes can also be used during the service when the coffin is being lowered and the curtain is being drawn. We can also lead the hearse from the entrance of the crematorium to the door. Burials Again the Pipes can be used inside or outside the church during the ceremony, we can play to lead the coffin from the service to the hearse to take the departed on their final journey. The piper can paige the hearse into the cemetery. At the graveside the Piper can play as the coffin is being lowered into the ground, and continue to play as the mourners pay their last respects and take a moment for reflection.
