Vets in Pontefract, West Yorkshire

There has been a veterinary surgery in Pontefract since at least the end of the nineteenth century. In those days, vets dealt mainly with livestock and horses, and the premises were situated near to the old cattle market in Friarwood. In the 1960's, j.g. Prescott, who purchased Ashleigh House (our main consulting building at the Pontefract site), founded the present practice. Several years later, the stables across the car park were converted, the practice re-located and Ashleigh House was sold to a firm of architects. As the practice expanded, more space was needed and, when, in 2002, Ashleigh House came back on the market the practice was able to operate from both sites. Shortly after, we decided to concentrate our efforts purely on small animal work, saying good bye to our equine and farm patients.

The Dales Veterinary Centre has been offering high quality professional Veterinary services to the people of Otley and the surrounding area since 1982 when it was fist opened by David McDowell MRCVS. The practice was taken over by Mark Hutchinson MRCVS in 1998 and continues to provide exceptional care for you and your pets to this day. Unique in the Yorkshire area, The Dales Veterinary Centre is one of only a handful of veterinary centres in the UK to have access to laser surgery. Laser surgery involves the use of a carbon dioxide laser to vaporise tissue using a ceramic tipped handle producing a highly controllable sterile incision that causes less discomfort than the traditional use of a scalpel and scissors.
